Every dog has his day…

Morning

I went for a 9.34 mile run with Jasper the border collie and my fellow Jedi Jogger Graham along the canal. It was more or less an out and back and you can see the Runkeeper stats here if you faancy. Today’s run represented the long run of this week’s training for the London Marathon (which I am running for Mind) which has yielded 25 miles in total. I’m very happy with this week’s total, although I appreciate that there is a lot of hard work to come. Unfortunately, 7 year old Jasper was struggling to keep up for the last couple of miles today. I have therefore decided not to take him with me on any runs over 10km in the future. He can keep me company for the shorter runs though :-)

Afternoon

Today was the first day of the Jedi Joggers 2012 Challenge. A series of challenges will be held at a frequency of once a month and points will be accumulated throughout the year to determine the overall winner. I decided to have a shave before we started and ended up looking like this…

Funny facial hair...

Funny facial hair...

Today’s ‘events’ were Kerplunk and Jenga. My new facial hair must have brought me luck as I finished 2nd in Kerplunk and 1st in Jenga, resulting in me being today’s winner :-) Next month the challenge will be ten pin bowling but until then I get to keep the shiny trophy!

Evening

Time to create some #runart :-) Most of you reading this will already know that an idea was put forward to create the word Janathon using the individual letters being ‘written’ by GPS. My contribution was to create the hash tag symbol, as in #Janathon :-) I had already selected my route and managed to walk up and down the streets of Saltaire without being rumbled by the locals who were enjoying their Saturday night. As is sometimes the case with my Runkeeper App, the GPS signal wasn’t the best so I had to edit the map when I got home but I knew exactly where I had walked so it wasn’t difficult. Here is my attempt…

Not too shabby I reckon :-) So, to conclude this blog, today has been a good day. A good run, good company and a sense of achievement :-)

#jokeathon (Jenga related)

Q. What do you call a game with stacked wooden blocks that also analyzes your dreams?

A. Karl Junga :-)

My wife, who is also training for a marathon (Australia’s Great Ocean Road marathon in May) has come to a similar conclusion with Nikki, our six year old Border Collie. Shame really, as Nikki loves running, but she does struggle in the heat and humidity of a Queensland summer, so has been similarly restricted to 10kms or less

I was surprised when he started flagging. I thought border collies could run all day :-) He has recently been having B12 jabs due to a deficiency, apparently quite common in border collies from 7 upwards. He’ll still keep me company on some of my midweek shorter runs :-)

Both your dogs are in good company, our Oreo, also a 6yr Border Collie is limited to 10kms. And he can only manage that with a good swim in the ocean mid way! The long runs without the dog don’t quite seem the same!

I’ve the same problem with my dog, Billy Boy, a few years ago he completed most of my long runs with me – now anything over an hour and he struggles.
That’s some nice facial hair going on!! Reminds me of Movember!
